This relaxed residential home located at Venice Beach, Los Angeles has struck a chord with me. Designed by Simo Design, I really like the smart, clean lines and refined spaces. The details and furnishings complete the fresh and homely feel. After visiting Venice Beach earlier this year, I think this aesthetic really suits the cool vibe of the town.

Here is a great Scandinavian style kitchen that has been designed for a Swedish-American family in Brooklyn, New York. I like how the dividers create the spaces without having to build walls - it keeps the overall interior spacious and creates a flow throughout.

This freestanding unit houses the fridge and kitchen storage. It also acts as a dividing wall between spaces.

The divider becomes a bookshelf on the other side towards the living room.

Another built in divider, which houses the coat cupboard, defines the entrance and the living spaces.

Phew, it's seems summer has arrived. It's hot and humid - which is unusual for Wellington, and along with madly running around to wrap up the year before the Christmas break, I think people are feeling flustered. Hence the attraction to this calm and simple summer home, designed by Robert Young Architecture and Interiors, located by Montauk Lake, USA. Cedar shingled houses have always appealed to me and this sprawling family home does it so well. Some colour in the interiors wouldn't go amiss, methinks.

It seems that when a holiday break beckons that hotels and holidays spots are very appealing to me as I browse through my interior design research.
Hotel San Jose located in the heart of Austin, Texas, was built in 1936 as a motor court - it has now been transformed into a stylish bungalow-style hotel. Look at those lush grounds and outdoor leather chairs! The hotel rooms are kept minimal and fresh with gorgeous custom sheets. Oh, dogs are welcomed as guests too. Two thumbs up.

The latest Urbis magazine is out and this issue is all about 'Coastal Living' - which on our rainy, cold summer day in Wellington makes one rather jealous.

This home on Manhattan Beach, California caught my eye. It was designed by, and is the home of, interior designer Mandy Graham. I like this timeless aesthetic - the tight palette of materials and simple details work together to make this compact home look very spacious. Home of an Artist: Laurie Frick Residence in Texas

Austin entitled KRDB Laurie Frick Texas USA

House of artist Laurie Frick was recently completed by a firm in Austin, Texas, USA, entitled KRDB, and occupies a living area of 1600 square feet. The one-bedroom, two-bathroom house with an office and a 700 square-feet studio sits in an infill lot in Barton Heights and features intriguing design details. Here is more from the architects: “Based on programmatic adjacencies the design is comprised of a series of 16’ structural steel bays wrapped with a metal-clad SIP cowl. Within the cowl, the home is programmatically volumized with tiger-wood and glazing while the studio is defined by integral color stucco. The main entry is activated with a subtle push into a generous hallway that doubles as gallery for the client’s art collection. Ambient light in the studio and living room is provided by a series of large north facing monitors while the more private master suite is volumized in maple mill-work“.
