Simple Living Room Decoration

Living room is probably the most important area in almost any house. Earlier, it was used like a formal place for special occasions and also to entertain important guests. However, in our times, the living room has become a more functional and active area of the home, which is used for multiple purposes. As a result, the decoration of the room assumes great significance. Also, the living room actually speaks volumes concerning the ambience of the entire house, so imparting it the best look is very important. Read on to locate some fabulous ideas for simple living room decoration.

Colors

Decorate a little living room using light colors to help make the space appear larger. Dark colors create a small space seem even smaller. When selecting the color of your walls and soft furnishings just like your upholstered sofa, window drapes and throw pillows, choose light shades such as pale blue, green or yellow, or neutral colors for example white, beige or cream. Darker colors must only be used as accents with light colors.

Patterns

If you opt to decorate your small living room with printed fabric for the sofa, throw pillows or drapes, opt for small patterns, as large ones overpower a little living room space. In a small living room, don't choose fabric with print for everything. Instead, choose just one or two patterned pieces, such as a sofa; use solids for drapes and throw pillows. Additionally, vertical stripes on walls provide the illusion of height, and horizontal stripes result in the room appear larger.

Furniture

Your decision of furniture is an important part of small living room decoration. Take advantage of vertical space by decorating with tall furniture instead of short, boxy furniture. Do not buy furniture that's too big -- a full sectional sofa for that space can make it looked cramped. Decorating with an excessive amount of furniture also makes the space cramped, so choose essential pieces. For small spaces, use furniture that serves a dual purpose, like a storage ottoman.

Cushions & Slip Covers

Cushions, in bright and matching colors, could be added to your lounge. It won't cost you a lot and at the same time frame, will give a new, changed turn to your chairs. Covers will even help conceal any scratches in your chairs that have appeared over time. The atmosphere of the room can be changed with the addition of slip covers, once you are completed with the cushions. Modern mix and match colors in various textures would look beautiful.

Window Valances

It is possible to bring about a transformation within the look of your living room just by installing window valances around the windows. A window valance is a small-sized decorative curtain and it is much shorter when compared to the normal curtains. Window valances look pretty on the bare window, over the existing curtains or the window blinds. They create the windows look larger and therefore are a beautiful addition to the living room.
