2012: A year in chairs

What a year it has been, looking back at 2012 takes my breath away! It's been an amazing year of rescuing destitute chairs and dressing them up for a fun new start... here's just a few of my absolute favourites from this year, some have been customer's treasures reborn, most I have scavenged along the way. All have been saved from the rubbish heap and are now dearly loved by their owners...

I often want to keep my beauties, but always find myself filling my home with the next projects in waiting! I have loads of fabulous new (old) pieces to start on for 2013... it's going to be a great year!

Happy 2013 to you too! xxx

Handmade Market success!

Handmade Market day came around yesterday... and as usual it was mad packed, though in a new upmarket venue - every one found us and shopped up a storm. This time around I had for sale more chairs than ever before! And W.O.W - what a response! Naturally the Union Jack chairs were snatched up immediately, as were the 2 floor lamps! And my stall was looking quite cleaned up by the end of the day.

So a I extend a huge thank you to my Handmade customers and wish your new Tango & James items a happy new life in your homes!

This week: I've been making...

These chairs have gone from drab to re-fabbed, freshly upholstered in super beautiful linen, while holding on to their retro awesome looks...

While the arm is high, it will happily slide under an overhanging table top, so they are ideal as a dining or desk chair, or for a corner in your lounge or bedroom.

I've also been working on a few more table lamps and cushions, mmm mmm velvet and linen!

And just a couple of neutrals! White with taupe and a splash of silver and chocolate...

You can get yours at Canberra's Handmade Market on March 10 and 11 at the National Convention Centre, unless they are snapped up first! For full pricing and info visit Tango & James on Facebook.

The Bentwood rocking chair

Salvaged, re-upholstered, styled, photographed and finally, SOLD all within 24 hours!
It was originally wearing a revolting polyester corporate green fabric (weird!!) - see the before pic below. Now freshly upholstered with my Fanpods fabric in Peacock. Beautiful.
It is a style made famous by designer, Thonet - the first appeared in 1860. I do not believe this is an authentic Thonet, however it is likely to have been produced in the late 60s - and is no less spectacular. And grateful for it's rescue!
Above: before and after

LOVE IT indeed!

The Graffiti Armchair

I love the masculine proportions of this chair and was excited to discover this amazing graffiti collage fabric - a fabulous combination.
Perfect for the teenaged street art connoisseur - or for the grown man who never grew up!

First Chairs of 2012

We've been on hold during our renovations. But now, baby, we're back!!! The first chairs of 2012 have just been re-dressed in cool greys. I present...

A beautiful pair of low back lounge chairs with sculpted Danish lines and oozing Scandinavian style. I've chosen a cool grey marled fabric on one, with the back rest cushion button tufted. The other features origami woodland creatures in fresh white and grey.

Both have practical zippered, washable covers.

They're only $180 each, so be quick, I have a feeling these will be snapped up!

Some fresh pieces

Available now, I'm deeply in love with these chairs, with their deep tufted, fabric covered buttons, and their unusual brass legs. Super elegant and very contemporary...

I can't believe these pieces came home with me from the market!
Lucky me, I get to enjoy them a little longer! And you can snap them up for a spot in your home.
